This is a fun sun catcher to hang in a window of your home or patio.
This little mermaid sun catcher was crafted using several pieces of hand scored glass in my original design taking several firings. First creating the mermaid figure in streaky green glass for tail, sparkling mattalic dark green for waist and bikini top and placing in kiln on full fused schedule taking 7 hours for firing, another several hours for cooling and annealing. then refired on a tack fused schedule to add hair embellishments. Using clear glass and streaky blue glass for sky and ocean, I used dark glass to make a rock in the ocean and fired on full fuse adding heat ressitant wire for hangers. The it was time to put all the elements together, tack fusing the mermaid, 1/2 marbles and glass frit to create the waves. This piece took four firings all together! Using oil base paint, I added the face and belly button.
Once the main part of the art was completed, I added a spinner and mattalic bead for a reflective element. I used copper and galvanized wire to add a decorative handle.
Mermaid plaque measures 11 " L X 5 1/2" W. Entire piece from handle to bottom of spinner/chimes measures 26 1/4" L.
